What is an Autism Assessment?

At Pair It With Speech Services, we provide comprehensive autism assessments for both children and adults, using a thoughtful, individualized approach. Whether you’re a parent looking for answers, or an adult seeking understanding and support, we’re here to guide you with care, respect, and professionalism.

Autism Assessments for Children

What to Expect:

1. Parent Intake & Case History:

We start with a detailed conversation with parents or guardians to gather developmental, medical, educational, and behavioral history.

2. Standardized Testing & Observations:

Our assessment may include tools such as the ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule) and other evidence-based checklists and screenings to assess social interaction, play, language, and behaviors.

3. In-Clinic or Virtual Observations:

We observe how your child communicates, plays, and interacts—either in person or virtually. This helps us understand real-world behaviors in safe, natural environments.

4. Collaboration with Other Professionals (if needed):

If you’ve been referred by a pediatrician, psychologist, or school, we can coordinate care and share assessment results (with consent) to ensure the best support moving forward.

5. Comprehensive Feedback & Next Steps:

You’ll receive a full written report, a clear explanation of the findings, and a personalized recommendation plan. Whether your child qualifies for a diagnosis or not, we’ll guide you toward the right services and supports.

Autism Assessments for Adults

What to Expect:

1. Confidential Consultation:

We begin with a private intake session to learn about your personal experiences, challenges, strengths, and goals. Whether you’ve suspected autism for years or are just starting to explore the possibility, we meet you without judgment.

2. Self-Report Tools & Clinical Interviews:

We use tools such as the RAADS-R (Ritvo Autism Asperger Diagnostic Scale), ADOS-2, and in-depth interviews to explore your communication style, sensory sensitivities, social history, and life experiences.

3. Strength-Based Approach:

Our assessments focus not just on challenges but also on your strengths, coping strategies, and how autism may present uniquely in adults—especially for women, racialized individuals, and those who’ve gone undiagnosed for years.

4. Supportive Feedback & Resources:

After your assessment, you’ll receive a full report with a diagnosis (if applicable), plus referrals and recommendations tailored to your goals—whether that includes therapy, accommodations, or simply self-understanding.
